Napoli's 2004–05 season was a transitional year on their way back to Serie A, although promotion was not achieved at the time, the team managed to consolidate a core of key players for the following years, Paolo Cannavaro, central defender and brother of Fabio Cannavaro, became a pillar in the Neapolitan defense, Emanuele Calaiò was a fundamental piece in the attack and would play a key role in the team's future promotion, despite not reaching the immediate objective, the season served to structure a competitive team that would eventually return Napoli to the elite of Italian football.
